Florida Maine Coons, LLC FAQ’s

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

At Florida Maine Coons (OptiCoons and MajestiCoons Catteries), we believe transparency is paramount. Below are answers to the most common inquiries regarding our esteemed Maine Coon lineage, adoption process, and dedication to ethical breeding and preservation practices.

I. Investment & Reservation

1. What is the Investment for a Florida Maine Coon Kitten?

The acquisition price for one of our exceptional Maine Coon kittens reflects the significant, non-negotiable investment in ethical breeding standards, superior bloodlines, and dedicated early socialization that define the quality of the OptiCoons and MajestiCoons lineage. We are profoundly committed to upholding the integrity, health, and ideal conformation of this majestic breed.

Pricing Structure and Determinants

Our kittens are individually assessed and priced by the litter, as the final cost is meticulously determined by a variety of key factors that speak directly to their inherent quality and adherence to the breed standard.

2. What is the process and requirement to reserve a kitten?

Kitten reservations are confirmed through the placement of a non-refundable deposit, established based on the total purchase price defined in your contract.

  • Formal Agreement: All reservations automatically enact a binding contract between the Buyer and Florida Maine Coons, LLC. Please refer to this contract for full details regarding terms and conditions.
  • Payment Logistics: We accept PayPal, as well as cash, credit, and debit cards. To ensure immediate reservation confirmation, all transaction fees associated with the chosen payment method must be borne by the Buyer so that the full deposit amount is received by the Seller.
  • Final Payment: The remaining balance is due upon the final scheduled pickup or prior to the commencement of transportation services.
  • Seller's Right to Cancel: Florida Maine Coons reserves the right to cancel any sale at any time; in this rare event, the deposit will be refunded to the Buyer in full.

3. When are kittens typically made available for reservation?

Kittens are first offered for reservation to individuals on our exclusive Reservation List.

We typically begin the formal reservation window when kittens are between two and four weeks of age. This allows for a preliminary health assessment and structural evaluation before they are presented as "upcoming kittens" on our website and social media channels. We highly recommend joining our Reservation List to ensure priority selection from our next available litter.

II. Health & Care

4. What does your Comprehensive Health Protocol include?

We provide a meticulous health foundation for every kitten, prioritizing genetic integrity and preventative veterinary care:

  • Parental Genetic Testing: All adult breeding cats are screened and confirmed negative for major inheritable feline diseases, including Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKdef).
  • Veterinary Examination & Certification: All kittens undergo a thorough examination by a licensed veterinarian. They are certified as healthy and receive the mandated State of Florida Health Certificate prior to leaving our cattery.
  • Vaccinations and Parasite Control: Kittens receive all necessary age-appropriate core vaccinations before transfer and are dewormed as a precautionary measure. Furthermore, all kittens are confirmed negative for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).
  • New Owner Responsibility: The new owner assumes responsibility for the kitten’s remaining booster vaccinations, including the Rabies vaccination (typically administered after 16 weeks of age). All current veterinary documentation will be provided to facilitate this transition.

5. Why is mandatory spay/neuter included in the purchase price?

Our program is managed by Spay Secure.

This policy is in place for several crucial reasons:

  • Health and Longevity: For females, this procedure eliminates the life-threatening risk of Pyometra, a severe uterine infection common in intact female cats. For all cats, it removes the hormonal stresses associated with maturity.
  • Behavioral Well-being: Desexing minimizes undesirable hormonal-driven behaviors such as spraying, aggression, and relentless seeking of a mate.
  • Responsible Breeding: This ensures that our MajestiCoon bloodlines are protected and only continue through our highly selective, health-tested breeding program, preventing accidental or irresponsible breeding.

6. Are your kittens officially registered with a governing body?

Yes. Every kitten in our program is officially registered with its litter at birth with TICA (The International Cat Association) under one of our catteries, OptiCoons or MajestiCoons.

  • Documentation: You will receive the official TICA registration documentation for your kitten after the mandatory spay/neuter has been performed (as this confirms the pet-only status). You may then register the kitten under your personal ownership.

III. Logistics & Adoption

7. At what age are the kittens ready to join their new homes?

Our Maine Coon kittens are ready for their new homes between 12 and 16 weeks of age.

This extended time frame is critical for the physical and psychological development of a Maine Coon, ensuring they have:

  • Completed their core vaccination series.
  • Received the mandatory State of Florida Health Certificate.
  • Fully benefited from the intense socialization phase necessary for a well-adjusted temperament.

8. Do you offer transportation or delivery services for kittens?

Yes, we are experienced in arranging comprehensive transportation solutions to safely deliver your kitten nationwide:

  • Local Cattery Pickup: We encourage local families to schedule an appointment to pick up their kitten directly at our TICA-registered cattery in Central Florida.
  • Personalized Courier Service: We offer a personalized flight nanny or delivery service to your nearest major international airport.
  • Shipping Logistics: We can provide quotes for specialized pet transportation where required. Please contact us directly to discuss and arrange the most secure, low-stress travel arrangements for your new family member.

9. Do you consider selling breeding rights?

As a general rule, we operate a pet-only program with a strict, non-negotiable spay/neuter clause.

However, we are dedicated to breed preservation and will, on rare occasions, consider transferring breeding rights. This opportunity is exclusively reserved for a highly selective and limited number of fully qualified, like-minded catteries that demonstrate:

  • A proven commitment to a strict Code of Ethics.
  • Documented experience in preservation breeding.
  • Adherence to TICA standards and comprehensive genetic health testing.

If you meet these stringent qualifications, we encourage you to contact us directly by phone to initiate a formal discussion and vetting process.
